Pendragon Castle

Originally called Mallerstang Castle it was named Pendragon Castle after the mythical link with Uther Pendragon of Arthurian legend.

It can be found close to the River Eden just outside Outhgill village. It was thought to have been constructed in the twelfth century by Ranulph de Meschines, with walls 14feet thick in places. One of its owners was Hugh de Morville, one of the knights responsible for the murder of Thomas a Becket.
