I received this e-mail recently - a little history of the village :-
The Bay Horse

Hi there,

Thank you and congratulations for putting together such an exellent website describing the village where I was born near the end of World War 1. Behind you, when you took the picture of the post office, is Croft House where I was born. Two pubs existed in those days....The "Bay Horse" is the white house shown in your picture of Low Bridge and the "Masons Arms" is across the beck from the Lum (Weir) and north of the Thwaites cottages. I am sure you would have liked to have seen Meaburn with Mill working and School open. Mother was the Headmistress with two additional teachers in the days of no public transportation and television nor, for that matter, electricity. Now I will not bore you with any further details but, by the same token, if you need information do not hesitate to contact me.
Best regards to you and yours.
