Soulby is a beautiful village between Maulds Meaburn and Kirby Stephen. It has a large village green with Scandal Beck running through it, the beck's name probably coming from the Norse for "short valley". From the 15th. century the land has belonged to the Musgrave family. The bridge over the beck which now carries modern traffic to Kirkby Steven was built in 1819.

The parish church of St Luke's dates from 1663 and used to be part of the parish of Kirkby Steven until 1873.

In the village green there is a limestone enclosure containing the village pump which has a dedication from 1888 to commemorate Quenn Victoria's Jubilee. This pump was used as the main village water supply until 1938 when a piped supply was brought to the village.
